Founding Backend Engineer

Outcom is building the Revenue Operating System for the consumption era, an AI platform that gives every customer account a dedicated Success Agent™. It reads each account continuously, catches the moments that decide revenue, and turns them into action, with a human on every approval.

As a founding backend engineer, you'll own the intelligence engine at the center of all of it. This is the hardest and most consequential surface in the company: the systems that turn raw signals (product usage, conversations, tickets, CRM, commercial terms) into evidence-backed findings, detections, and agentic plays across thousands of accounts. The decisions you make here will outlive you.

What you'll do

• Own services end-to-end: design, build, and operate core backend systems in TypeScript and Express, from data model to production.
• Build the intelligence engine: the multi-tenant NLU agent pipeline, schema extraction, SQL generation, and the CS intelligence agents that produce the platform's findings.
• Work the data layer deeply: PostgreSQL 15 with pgvector, raw SQL via query generators (no ORMs), and Redis pub/sub for event-driven processing.
• Make the hard calls: architecture, data modeling, and performance at scale, in a multi-tenant system where correctness is non-negotiable.
• Keep it production-grade: tenant isolation, observability (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Langfuse), and evidence you can audit.

What we're looking for

• 4+ years building backend systems in production. Strong in TypeScript, or strong in another typed language and genuinely eager to go deep in TS.
• Serious SQL and data-modeling instincts. You're comfortable owning schemas and writing raw SQL, and you know why an ORM isn't always the answer.
• Distributed-systems experience: queues, event-driven processing, and the failure modes that come with them.
• A bias for correctness and evidence. You don't ship guesses, and you can explain why your system is right.
• Startup-shaped. High ownership, comfortable with ambiguity, able to ship fast without breaking trust.

Nice to have

• LLM and agent systems, RAG, pgvector, or prompt/eval pipelines.
• Multi-tenant SaaS at scale, and the observability tooling that keeps it honest.
• Domain experience in revenue, customer success, or GTM.
